Truth

A historical biblical figure said "truth, what is truth?" That was and is a good question. Philosophically there is only one truth and everything else is an illusion. For each of us, our truth is what we believe it is. Belief is a powerful force, for it can actually make what is really untrue at the moment become true. If you believe something is true it is true for you. If you believe it long enough and strong enough it will become really true. Now some truths are basic truths and nothing is going to change these. Basic truths such as 'God is' or energy exists or my thoughts exist. Even if I die my thoughts will continue. Why, because all these truths are spiritual. It is the material world that changes and so what is true at one moment may not be true the next.

Let's get back to beliefs. What we believe right or wrong is the truth for us. Therefore, truth becomes very personal. There are many reasons for one's beliefs - our environment, what we experience, the impressions of our parents beliefs, etc.
My wife worked as a caregiver for a lady who is physically deteriorating because of smoking a pack or two per day. When she starts to cough she lites up a cigarette because she thinks that helps. Her circulation has stop in her legs to the point where she needs surgery. My wife has quit her job with her because she smokes while being on oxygen. She doesn't believe there is any danger and even said she guarantee my wife the she would not cause a fire or explosion by smoking with the oxygen on. How can she do that? The truth is she can't but she believes she can against all reason.

Beliefs can be a powerful force for better or for worse. Belief is what turned the tide for the continental army at Valley Forge. Belief is what propelled the young U.S. hockey team to victory over the Seasoned Russian Professional at the U.S. Olympics and that is what fueled the upset victory of the New York Giants over the unbeaten New England Patriots in this years Super Bowl.

There is a poem that goes:
If you think you are outclassed, you are
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or the faster man
But soon or late the one who wins
Is the one WHO THINKS HE CAN!

What is truth for you?
